Chief Engineer
Job Summary:
BOC Water Hydraulics is an organization driven by the Product Design and Development Process. The Chief Engineer plays a key and critical role by directing and managing the Engineering Team to ensure effective completion of all engineering tasks, as well as machining support for the manufacture of our engineered product within BOC’s Machine Shop. In short, by virtue of being an engineered product business, the Engineering department functions as the driving ‘intellectual resource’ for the entire BOC
operation.
The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the following functions and activities:
Product Design:
• Arrangement and Assembly Level design to include Solid Modeling, Bills of Materials, Functional
Descriptions, Test Procedures
• Part Level Design to include Material selection, Tolerancing, Machine Routing, Outside Processing
(Heat treating, Chrome, etc.)
• Evaluate, Approve, and manage Revision Control for design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
• Assist with Quality Assurance (Drawing/Design Review, Machined Part Inspection)
• Develop new products for applications identified by Sales and Marketing
Manufacturing:
• Develop shop routing for Part manufacturing
• Create test equipment and procedures for Product Testing
• Identify machining capabilities required to advance company capabilities
• Work with Machine Shop Manager to determine resolution of machining issues
• Assist Machine Shop in developing proper weld procedures
Team Leadership:
• Manage Engineering Team
• Scope and Task engineering activities for Mechanical Engineers and Draftsmen
• Assist in Problem Solving/Analysis with Design, Manufacturing, and Assembly
• Train and develop personnel to advance and grow in capabilities
• Organize Engineering Team to support other aspects of Company Operations (Sales)
• Provide weekly status updates for Engineering Activities
• Participate in Internal and Customer Design Process/Reviews
• Identify staffing needs and participate in recruiting efforts
• Plus, other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by management
Experience:
Engineering Department Related:
• Minimum 5-7 Years working in an Engineering Department
• Demonstrable product design process experience
• Proven ability to deliver quality engineering ‘product’
• Proven Leadership Track Record - Responsible for all other engineering personnel
Manufacturing Related:
• Strong knowledge of Manual/CNC Machining (lathes, mills, machining centers), Manufacturing
Processes, Material Specification, Welding
• Familiar with tight tolerance, exotic materials manufacturing
Application Related:
• Proficient in Mechanical/Hydraulic System Design, Assembly, and Testing
• Experience in industrial hydraulics applications a plus
• Heavy industry industrial equipment and maintenance a plus
Qualifications:
Education:
• Minimum- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
• Additional Certifications/Training a plus
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred), GD&T, and ANSI
Drawing Standards
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite of Products (Access a plus)
• Control Systems Experience a plus
